Color Converter: what this tool is for
Converting color values between the core digital color models (HEX, RGB, and HSL) is a daily necessity for graphic designers, UI/UX developers, frontend engineers, and digital illustrators: translating a HEX code from a design mockup into RGB components for HTML5 Canvas, adjusting HSL lightness to build clean Dark Mode palettes, or inspecting colors using a visual picker.
Xorvian's Color Converter & Shade Generator provides instant, bidirectional synchronization across the 3 primary web color formats: Hexadecimal (HEX, supporting 6-digit `#3b82f6` and 3-digit shorthand `#38f`), Red-Green-Blue (RGB, scale 0 to 255), and Hue-Saturation-Lightness (HSL, angle 0–360° and 0–100%).
Enter a color into any of the three format inputs or use the built-in HTML5 color picker palette. The large visual preview panel updates in real time and automatically generates a palette of 5 tint and shade variations (+40%, +20%, 0%, -20%, -40%).
Each color format and shade swatch includes a dedicated one-click copy button to transfer clean CSS syntax directly into your stylesheet. 100% private, client-side, and free: all color calculations execute locally in your web browser with zero network requests.

Tips and mistakes to avoid
Use HSL for UI Dark Mode & Hover States
Keep Hue (H) and Saturation (S) identical while adjusting Lightness (L) (e.g., 60% → 40%) to create cohesive hover and active button states.
Understanding the HSL Color Wheel (Hue)
Hue represents the angle on the 360° color wheel: 0° = Red, 60° = Yellow, 120° = Green, 180° = Cyan, 240° = Blue, 300° = Magenta.
Shorthand 3-Digit HEX Codes
In CSS, doubling characters allows compact 3-digit shorthand: `#ffffff` can be written as `#fff`, `#ff6600` as `#f60`.
Avoid : Forgetting the Hash (#) in HEX Codes
Ensure you include the `#` prefix in your CSS stylesheets (e.g., `#3b82f6`) so browsers parse the hexadecimal value correctly.
Avoid : Exceeding the 255 Limit in RGB
RGB color channels are strictly bounded between 0 and 255; values above 255 will trigger an input format error.
Avoid : Confusing Lightness (L) with Saturation (S) in HSL
Saturation (S) measures color intensity (0% = neutral gray, 100% = pure color), while Lightness (L) controls brightness (0% = black, 100% = white).
