URL Decoder: what this tool is for

Analyzing long, percent-encoded web links, tracking URLs, API request logs, and encoded query parameters can be difficult when strings are cluttered with `%20`, `%26`, `%3D`, `%3F`, and multi-byte hex sequences. Decoding these strings into clear text makes debugging and URL inspection straightforward.

Xorvian's URL Decoder transforms percent-encoded URI strings and query parameters back into clean, human-readable text in real time. It accurately decodes standard RFC 3986 percent-encoded characters, multi-byte UTF-8 international text, and accented letters.

The decoder features a handy toggle to treat `+` characters as spaces (standard in HTML form URL encoding) or preserve them literally as plus symbols, ensuring accurate decoding across both REST APIs and legacy form payloads.

100% private, client-side, and free: decoding runs locally inside your browser memory without sending data to external servers or logging URL inputs.

  • No file stored

Nothing is saved on our servers, during or after processing.

  • Local processing

The computation runs in your browser whenever the technology allows it.

  • Instant result

No waiting and no export queue: the result appears live.

  • Free, no account

No sign-up, no daily limit and no intrusive ads.

What this tool gives you

  • Real-Time Instant URL Decoding

Percent-encoded strings decode into human-readable text dynamically as you type or paste with zero delay.

  • Full UTF-8 Multi-Byte Decoding

Accurately restores international characters, accented European letters (é, à, ç), Cyrillic, Asian alphabets, and emojis from multi-byte hex sequences.

  • Flexible '+' Space Toggle

Choose whether to decode `+` characters into spaces (form submission format) or retain them as literal plus symbols.

  • Translates Percent-Encoded Hex Sequences to Plain Text

All decoding executes in local browser memory. Sensitive tracking URLs, search terms, and authentication tokens never leave your device.

  • One-Click Copy & Clean Interface

Copy the decoded text directly to your clipboard for immediate pasting into spreadsheets, documentation, or code editors.

  • Developer & SEO Analyst Friendly

Essential tool for inspecting Google Analytics UTM links, debugging OAuth callback redirect URIs, and reading encoded API logs.

How to use URL Decoder

  1. Paste Your Encoded URL String

Enter your percent-encoded link or query parameter into the input area.

  2. Configure Plus Sign (+) Handling

Toggle the '+' as space setting depending on whether the input originated from an HTML form query or a raw URI.

  3. Review Instant Decoded Output

The human-readable plain text renders immediately in the output area.

  4. Copy Decoded String

Click 'Copy to Clipboard' to transfer the decoded URL directly to your destination application.

Tips and mistakes to avoid

Inspecting Complex OAuth Redirect Links

OAuth callback URLs often contain nested encoded parameters (e.g., `redirect_uri=https%3A%2F%2Fapp.com%2Fauth`). Paste into the decoder to verify the target URL.

Handling Plus Signs (+) in Math Expressions

If your URL contains mathematical equations with literal plus signs (e.g., `2+2=4`), disable the '+' as space toggle to preserve the literal `+` symbol.

Inspect Decoded JSON Payloads

If the decoded output is a JSON string, copy it directly into our JSON Formatter to inspect its structure with syntax highlighting.

Avoid : Treating Plus Signs (+) Inconsistently

In standard RFC 3986, spaces are `%20`. In `application/x-www-form-urlencoded`, spaces are `+`. Make sure to match your toggle to the input source.

Avoid : Ignoring Incomplete Hex Escape Sequences

A trailing `%` without two hexadecimal digits (e.g., `%2` instead of `%20`) represents a malformed URL and will trigger a syntax alert.

Avoid : Pasting Non-Encoded Text

Pasting normal unencoded text into the decoder will simply return the text unchanged.
