URL Encoder: what this tool is for

Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs) and web URLs can only contain a restricted set of ASCII characters defined by RFC 3986. Special characters like spaces, ampersands (`&`), question marks (`?`), slashes (`/`), equals signs (`=`), and non-Latin characters must be converted into percent-encoded format (e.g., `%20`, `%26`) to prevent breaking query strings or causing server routing errors.

Xorvian's URL Encoder provides instant, standards-compliant percent-encoding for URLs and query parameters. Switch between 'Encode Component' (strict `encodeURIComponent` for query parameters, encoding delimiters like `&` and `=`) and 'Encode Full URL' (`encodeURI` for full web addresses, preserving protocol and path slashes).

Full Unicode compliance ensures that accented international characters, non-Latin scripts, and emojis encode cleanly without string corruption.

100% private, client-side, and free: encoding takes place locally inside your browser without logging inputs or transmitting data across the internet.

  • No file stored

Nothing is saved on our servers, during or after processing.

  • Local processing

The computation runs in your browser whenever the technology allows it.

  • Instant result

No waiting and no export queue: the result appears live.

  • Free, no account

No sign-up, no daily limit and no intrusive ads.

What this tool gives you

  • Dual Component & Full URL Modes

Choose 'Component' mode to strictly encode query values, or 'Full URL' mode to encode full web addresses while preserving protocol (`https://`) and path slashes.

  • RFC 3986 Standards Compliant

Guarantees accurate percent-encoding of reserved characters (`&`, `?`, `=`, `#`, `/`, `@`, spaces, etc.) for reliable API integrations.

  • Full Unicode & International Support

Accurately percent-encodes international alphabets, accented characters (é, à, ñ), Cyrillic, Asian characters, and emojis.

  • Escapes Spaces & Reserved HTTP Delimiters Safely

Encoded output generates dynamically as you type or paste text, with zero lag or page refreshes.

  • Standard RFC 3986 Query Parameter Percent-Encoding

All encoding runs in local browser memory. Sensitive tracking IDs, tokens, and query strings are never sent to external servers.

  • One-Click Copy & Clean Interface

Copy your encoded URL directly to your clipboard for instant pasting into code, tracking links, or API clients.

Real-world examples

Overview of reserved URL characters and their corresponding percent-encoded representations:

Common Special Characters, ASCII Hex Codes & Percent-Encoded Replacements
CharacterCharacter NamePercent-Encoded ValueWhy Encoding is Required
Space ( )Whitespace%20 (or +)Spaces are illegal in raw URL syntax and break browser parsing
Ampersand (&)Query separator%26Prevents splitting a single parameter into multiple query keys
Question Mark (?)Query delimiter%3FPrevents prematurely starting a new URL query section
Equals Sign (=)Key-value separator%3DPrevents splitting parameter names from parameter values
Forward Slash (/)Path separator%2FPrevents URL routing engines from interpreting as a path directory
Hash / Pound (#)Fragment anchor%23Prevents truncating the URL at a client-side anchor jump
At Sign (@)Authority delimiter%40Required when passing email addresses in query parameters

How to use URL Encoder

  1. Paste or Type Your Text

Enter your raw query parameter string or full web address into the input box.

  2. Select Encoding Mode

Choose 'Encode Component' (for query parameter values) or 'Encode Full URL' (for complete web links).

  3. Review Instant Encoded Output

The percent-encoded URL string appears immediately in the output area.

  4. Copy Encoded String

Click 'Copy to Clipboard' to transfer the safe, encoded URL into your application or code.

Tips and mistakes to avoid

Use Component Mode for Query Values

When passing dynamic user input into query strings (e.g., `?search=term&user=John Doe`), use Component mode so characters like `&` and `=` don't break parameter parsing.

Spaces as %20 vs. +

`%20` is the standard percent-encoding in RFC 3986. The `+` symbol is historically used in `application/x-www-form-urlencoded` form submissions.

Encoding UTM Campaign Links

Ensure UTM campaign parameters with spaces (e.g., `utm_campaign=summer promo`) are percent-encoded (`summer%20promo`) to avoid broken analytics links.

Avoid : Double-Encoding Existing Percent-Encoded Strings

Encoding an already-encoded string (e.g., `%20` becoming `%2520`) will corrupt URL parameters on receiving servers.

Avoid : Using Full URL Mode on Raw Parameter Values

Using `encodeURI` instead of `encodeURIComponent` leaves `&` and `=` unencoded, which corrupts query string key-value boundaries.

Avoid : Manually Replacing Spaces with Underscores

Use standard percent-encoding `%20` to preserve the original space character in search queries and API payloads.
